Is Your Life Out of Balance?
By Sara Butler
Life can be very busy. Between work, family, and household commitments, it can often feel like the balance in your life is lacking. There are a lot of moving parts in life that can make finding balance a struggle, but before you can attempt to recalibrate, you first have to identify that your life is out of whack. Here are a few signs that you need to work on to find balance in your life.
You Don't Do Anything Outside of Work
It's a good thing if you're passionate about your work, but if it's the only thing you have time for, then that's the definition of a life imbalance. If you don't have time for hobbies or hanging out with people in your life who are important to you, then it's time to take some action to find more balance.
You can try to find more balance by making time to pursue interests outside of work. Try to slowly incorporate those things into your routine so you can make time and try to restore a little balance to your life.
You're Tired
Everyone gets tired but if you're tired all the time because you stay up late working and then get up early, then you're only going to hurt your productivity (and health) in the long run. If you get enough sleep each night but still feel incredibly tired all the time, then it may be your brain trying to send you signals that it needs a break.
To fix this, try to get around eight hours of sleep each night. Make your bedroom a place that promotes sleep by making it quiet, cool, and dark. You should also make sure to schedule some mental breaks throughout your day where you spend some time stretching, resting, or reading a good book.
You Don't Go on Vacation
Have you racked up an inhuman amount of vacation time at your current job? That's a sure sign that you're neglecting yourself outside of work. After all, what good is vacation time if you don't use it? Vacations or even staycations help to give you separation from your job and time to yourself to pursue things you enjoy. It's crucial to take time off if you want to have balance in your life.
Start off with a short trip if it's been a while since your last vacation. Try taking a long weekend getaway and do something you really enjoy. Perhaps it'll give you the vacation bug and you'll finally take advantage of time off.
You can excel at your life and your job at the same time -- you simply need to find balance to be able to do it!
