Unhealthy Foods You Need to Cut Out of Your Diet

By Sara Butler

How well do you know your food? Is that canned soup you warmed up for dinner last night good for you? What about the creamer you add to your coffee each morning? Many foods are marketed as healthy, or at least neutral, but when it comes to your health it turns out they are anything but. Here are a few foods you may want to eliminate from your diet completely in order to stay healthy.

Coffee Creamer

Coffee creamer seems innocent enough. After all, it's smooth and creamy and takes your morning coffee up a notch. But the problem is that many coffee creamers actually don't contain any creamer. Plus, they're full of additives and oils that are anything but natural.

If you can make the switch, you're far better off using cow's milk in your morning joe. If you want to add more flavor to your coffee, then consider sprinkling in some cinnamon or adding some vanilla extract.

Fruit Juice

Fruit is good for you. So, it stands to reason that fruit juice is good for you too, right? Wrong!

Fruit juice has had most of what makes fruit good for you removed, such as fiber. Many fruit juice brands also add high-fructose corn syrup that adds unnatural sugars to the mix. In fact, one cup of certain types of juice has as much added sugar as a donut, so you may want to rethink your fruit juice choices.

If you love the taste of fruit in your beverages, then consider adding fresh fruit to your water. It adds some flavor without all the extra sugar your body gets from fruit juice.

Frozen Entrees

Frozen dinners may be easy to make during a hectic schedule, but they're often full of preservatives and sodium that aren't good for you. But that doesn't mean you need to avoid frozen foods altogether. If you can find low-sugar, low-sodium, and organic options, then those are likely OK to have in moderation.

Pancake Syrup

Most people assume pancake syrup is simply maple syrup but they're actually more like maple-flavored high fructose corn syrup. Even very famous brands are full of caramel coloring and high fructose corn syrup. If you want to top your pancakes, then reach for the real stuff. Grade A Medium Amber pure maple syrup is the stuff. Plus, the flavor of it is so intense that a little bit goes a long way and you don't have to use as much, saving your calories.

You don't have to give up the idea of foods you like that may be on this list, you simply need to swap out the bad for the better!
