Amazing Uses for Table Salt
By Sara Butler
Table salt. It tastes good but it’s way too easy to get too much of it! So, instead of adding it to your food, you can use it around your house. Here are some of the best uses for table salt that have nothing to do with adding flavor to your food!
Makes a Great Bathroom Cleaner
It may not seem like it, but salt is actually a pretty aggressive mineral. Its chemical properties, as well as its texture, make it great to reach the nooks and crannies of your bathroom. All you need to do is sprinkle it over areas in your bathroom as you would another powdered cleaning scrub. Use a sponge to wipe the soap and toothpaste scum away. It’ll leave your bathroom clean, shiny, and free of harmful commercial chemicals.
Give Your Laundry a Boost
You can add salt to your laundry for an added boost if you have hard water. Salt can be used to naturally soften the water, making your laundry detergent more effective. That means less soap will go a lot further, so you’ll save money down the road too! Your clothes will feel softer, too.
Calm Itchy Skin
Salt-based treatments can work wonders for itchy skin. Use a half-cup of salt and a half-cup of baking soda in a tub of water and soak for 20 minutes. You should find instant relief and your skin will come out feeling as soft as a newborn baby’s bottom!
Rid Your Home of Ants
Ants are a big problem in homes around America in the spring and summer, but you don’t have to rely on nasty and dangerous chemicals to keep them away. Instead, you should try a remedy with salt!
All you need to do is boil water and add a fairly large amount of salt to it. Once the salt has dissolved and the mixture cools, then put it in a spray bottle and spray around your doors and windows – or wherever you see ants marching in. Ants won’t like it, so they’ll steer clear.
Disinfect your Refrigerator
Your refrigerator sees a lot of things, and it gets germy if you don’t take the time to clean it. Salt is a great way to clean your fridge naturally. All you need to do is mix some salt and soda water together, then scrub it down. That keeps nasty chemicals away from your food and also disinfects and freshens the fridge.
