How to Sneak More Vegetables in Your Meals
By Sara Butler
Some people simply don't like vegetables. Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinions and tastes, but for your health and wellness, it's important to try to overcome your aversion to vegetables. If you or someone in your family has a tough time stomaching veggies, then there are some easy tricks you can use to sneak more vegetables into every meal. Here are a few you need to try for better health!
At Breakfast
Adding vegetables to your breakfast is easy! Create a frittata with some eggs and vegetables. Think of adding tomatoes, onions, red pepper, or broccoli -- the sky is truly the limit. Each vegetable you add makes the frittata more filling and delicious, so don't be afraid to go a little crazy.
You can also puree vegetables to put in mixes such as pancake batter. Think pureed butternut squash or pumpkin mixed in your favorite pancake mix and you've got a more nutritious start to your day.
Bring Along Vegetables for Snacking
If you want to make your snacks healthier, then preparation is key. Cut up some peppers, cucumbers, or baby carrots to take with you so when the afternoon munchies roll around, you've got something healthy on hand instead of something from the vending machine. You can add a dip into the mix if you don't want to eat straight vegetables. Think hummus or peanut butter.
Bulk Up Dinner
There's no shame in pureeing vegetables to add to your dinner to help you get more. It also happens to be a great way to get picky kids to try something new. You can puree spinach to put in with marinara sauce, cauliflower to mix with meatballs, and voila! A healthier spaghetti dinner with loads of vegetables no one may even be able to detect.
If you want to take it one step further, think of using vegetable noodles instead of traditional pasta. You can spiralize squash, zucchini, and sweet potatoes to use as noodles.
Be a Vegetable Ninja
If you really want to take your vegetable intake to another level, then try to add vegetables to every meal you eat - even desserts. Chocolate is a great way to mask the taste of vegetables, so throw some spinach or avocados into your next chocolate recipe and see what happens!
You don't have to be a fan of vegetables to make sure you're getting more in your diet -- you simply need to know how to work them in!
