Hip Pain and Chiropractic Care

By Madhusudhan Tammisetti

People suffering from hip pain may experience aching or burning sensation, and the intensity of pain may range from mild to severe. Some of the hip pain causes include arthritis or bursitis and fracture or joint infection. If you're consulting a doctor or chiropractor, they may go through your medical history, do a physical examination, and order imaging tests. If you're consulting a chiropractor, you may not have to go through invasive procedures such as injections or surgeries. Once correctly diagnosed, the chiropractor may suggest self-care strategies such as rest and ice and physical therapy.

Hip injury may cause many discomforts and disallow you from doing simple things such as bending, walking, running, lifting weights, and making it difficult for you to stand on your own two feet. Hips help stabilize the spine, and a hip injury may lead to neck pain and back problems. Due to this reason, you need to consult a chiropractor to treat hip injuries.

What Causes Hip Pain?

Different kinds of inflammatory arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and ankylosing spondylitis may affect the hip and cause dull, aching pain. Hip pain caused due to inflammatory arthritis may often be eased with activity.

Osteoarthritis of the hip happens when the hip joint cartilage slowly wears away over time. Due to a prior hip injury or aging, the cartilage degenerates over time, and the space between the hip joint bone narrows, and eventually, bone rubs on bone. Depending on the severity of osteoarthritis, the pain may be sharp or dull. Although in most cases, the stiffness and pain of hip osteoarthritis deteriorate with activity and may improve with rest.

A hip fracture or an injury to the thighbone's upper quarter causes deep pain in the outer-upper thigh. A fall or blow to the hip may cause a hip fracture. The fracture may also be caused due to a stress injury. Female athletes suffering from bone weakening, menstrual irregularities, and eating disorders are prone to stress fractures.

Additional risk factors that result in hip injury include a history of smoking, steroid use, and other medical conditions.

Chiropractic Care for Hip Pain

If you want a non-invasive treatment to relieve hip pain, you may reach out to a chiropractor. After seeing your medical history and conducting a physical examination, the chiropractor may start the treatment plan to address the symptoms causing the pain. With physical activity, rest, and physical therapy, the treatment may help your body to heal.

Don't fear chiropractic to resolve hip pain-related health conditions; chiropractic care is for more than just back pain.
