Start off with no alarm or the right one - Most of us depend on an alarm, but the experts recommend using one that has a very comforting tone. They say there is nothing worse than jolting your brain awake with a blaring alarm. Look for soft chirpings or silvery bells.
Consider using a chill pad - You can sleep at 60 degrees and the chill pad will gradually warm up the bed to 70 degrees which raises the body temperature and wakes you up naturally.
Change your menu - Start with water instead of coffee to stay hydrated. Then switch to fresh fruits and veggies instead of breakfast tacos or leftover pizza. Oatmeal with blueberries, banana smoothies or a veggies omelet with fresh salsa will wake you up and keep you going all morning. Avocado slices, fresh berries, whole grains and nuts are good choices too.
Get active - Short walks, regular runs or stretching sessions outside serve to wake up the brain and create a good mood. Fresh air and sunshine work too. If you usually exercise later in the day, you may be surprised how much energy and focus can be generated In the morning. You can keep everything going with mid-morning breaks and short sessions after lunch too.
Pause a moment - Talk with your kids, or play with your dog before enjoying breakfast. Then take a moment to think about your day and what you want to accomplish. Consider ideas for new projects or work strategies too.
Fit in a meditation - Before you head out the door take 10 or 15 minutes to sit quietly and let your thoughts flow unjudged. Later you may find your head has cleared and everything seems easier. I do another one of these at night and it seems to help me sleep better.
