How to Reduce Stress for Health
By Sara Butler
Some amount of stress in life just can’t be avoided but everyone has to find effective ways to deal with it or their health will suffer. Chiropractic care is one way you can help your body to deal with stress more effectively since a balanced body is one that can work at its best and deal with any speed bumps that may pop up. But there are many other, very simple things that can be done to help offset the stressors of daily life. Here are a few ways chiropractors instruct their patients to help deal with stress.
Breathe Deep
A spine free from joint restriction and dysfunctions means a rib cage that is more easily able to expand. You can work to help relieve stress in your daily life by breathing deeply. When someone is under stress, they may unconsciously take more shallow breaths. This impacts how much oxygen the body is receiving and can make anxiety and stress worse. So, when you find yourself in a situation where you’re feeling stressed, slow down and control your breathing by taking a few deep breaths: 30 seconds of slow, deep breathing should help.
Hang Out
Spending time with the people in your life who are important is a great way to help relieve stress. Being around people you care about has been found to reduce the amount of the stress hormone, cortisol, in the body. Positive and supportive people really do make a difference!
Exercise
Exercise is good for the body and the mind, especially when used to help work out stress. That’s because it’s possible for stress to build up in the body over time with detrimental effects on health. Getting out and getting the body moving can help to stimulate the release of endorphins, neurotransmitters that can help to boost mood. Daily physical activity helps to keep a person calm and in command – with lower stress!
Chiropractic Adjustments
As mentioned, regular chiropractic adjustments are incredibly important to overall health and function as you deal with stress. Having joint dysfunction and restriction removed from the body through chiropractic adjustments helps to keep the nervous system functioning at its best, making people better prepared to deal with the stressors of life.
Sleep Well
Getting enough sleep at night is crucial to health, wellness, and dealing with stress. It’s the time your body needs to rest and rejuvenate, so don’t short yourself on sleep! Go to bed around the same time every night and wake up around the same time every day to feel your best, working in eight to nine hours of sleep every night.
