Dr. Mark A. Osborne joined The Joint Chiropractic in 2016, where he serves as the clinic director for the Gleannloch Farms location. He had most recently worked in Longview, Pearland and Tyler. He received an associate degree from Utah Valley University, and both a bachelor’s degree in human biology and doctorate from Logan University in Chesterfield, Mo., in 2001.
“The best thing about being in this field is to watch patients heal, and to watch the amazing power of the body to heal,” Dr. Osborne says. “Consider the whole philosophy of chiropractic. The body is designed to heal itself. Adjust the spine, work on the tissues, and watch the body heal. Drugs don’t cure.
“People are smart, they decide who they see and what they pay for in health care. Having the freedom to decide how to apply the healing art to each different patient is very satisfying.”
Dr. Osborne applies himself to a lot of personal interests. Not only does he love healing people, but he loves working with wood, landscaping and gardening -- which includes growing blackberries -- and maintaining his automobiles. In his spare time he also enjoys reading, mountain biking, doing his family’s genealogy, and playing board games with his wife and their two sons. They also have a dog, cat, 15 chickens and one very happy rooster.
Having worked previously in sales of internet services, fine foods and gourmet ice cream, the appeal of chiropractic helped Dr. Osborne realize this is the space he wanted to be in.
“When a patient goes to a physical therapist, they get better and go away and never come back,” he says. “A chiropractic patient can return whenever they want; they are never ‘released’ from care. It’s a lifestyle.”
For him, working at Gleannloch Farms is a career come true. “It’s not stressful, and I enjoy the freedom to teach patients from my past experience,” Dr. Osborne says. “As a clinic director, I can control my own destiny.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Ketchup and barbecue sauce are Dr. Osborne’s go-to condiments when it’s chow time, so he always has some on hand. Given the opportunity to pour some BBQ sauce over dinner with any persons from history, he could have quite the conversation -- no doubt followed by gourmet ice cream.
“I would love to talk to President Ronald Reagan, whose work ethic and political views have always been an inspiration to me,” Dr. Osborne says. “I would also like to talk to Jack LaLanne, who revolutionized American health and fitness; President George Washington, not just for historical purposes but to learn about the American Revolution; and author Brandon Mull, who writes great science fiction.”
The two presidents, especially, might enjoy hearing about the coolest thing Dr. Osborne has ever done. “I served a two-year humanitarian mission in the Philippines,” he says. “I realized that there are many wonderful advantages in life we can live without and be perfectly happy.”
Dr. Brittany Smith joined The Joint Chiropractic in 2018. She did her undergraduate at University of Texas at San Antonio where she majored in kinesiology. She got her doctor of chiropractic at Parker University in Dallas, TX.
Dr. Smith decided to become a chiropractor after adjustments corrected her digestive issues when specialists did nothing to help. She has always wanted to be in a field that she could help people and make them feel better. She immensely enjoys being a chiropractor and loves coming to work every day because she is able to make people function at their highest potential.
When she is not serving her patients, she enjoys boating, being outdoors and listening to live music.
