Visiting A National Park Can Increase Sense of Value

By Tom Herrin

Years ago, one of the great vacations was to visit a national park.  Everyone wanted to see Yellowstone.  While there are still many visitors each year, the percentage may well have gone down.  Far too many people stay home or visit some recreational area that was designed strictly for entertainment.  There is much more for the eye to behold, and there is no place to get some of these experiences except for the national parks.  Even though many videos are made showing the sights, nothing can take the place of being there.

Seeing The Parks Can Be A Very Personal Experience

There are many things that can be viewed on television today or seen in books or on the internet.  Nothing can take the place of being there in person.  One of the most awesome opportunities I have ever had was to see Mount Rushmore in person.  While I had seen it for my entire life in pictures, there was nothing to compare with being there and standing at the foot of the mount.  It all become so real.  My children have never forgotten it.

The Historical Value Is Irreplaceable

No matter what kinds of resources there are, nothing can take the place of feeling the significance of a historical park.  Even though it is not a national park, standing in front of the Alamo chapel at night stirs the imagination and pierces the soul.  Walking into it continues the feeling as the artifacts and historical places can be seen.  No amount of technological magic can duplicate it.  No one can go there and avoid being changed in some way as they contemplate the events that took place there, the lives lost.

Children Deserve The Opportunity To Connect With The Outdoors And Learning

The parks offer many natural scenes that are almost unimaginable.  Children will automatically connect with what they see.  The experience will leave an impression on them that will last a lifetime.  They will develop a curiosity and a thirst for learning that cannot be gained from books or other resources.  First-hand knowledge can be a great motivator for children to want to learn more.  If you are looking for a vacation plan that can be memorable, educational, and enjoyable, plan a visit to a national park.  The entire family will benefit.
