Sleep Snug in the Right Temperature

By Tom Herrin

a lot of individuals have problems with what may be considered ordinary functions.  All of us must do some things as part of our natural processes, but some do much better than others.  I have known some who can do quite well exercising the first thing in the morning.  Some of my kids are that way.  On the other hand, when I have attempted to do this, I have ended up feeling as if I have been beaten up for the rest of the day.  All of our bodies work differently.  Many studies have been done on the effects of temperature on some of those functions with interesting findings.

Temperature and Sleep

Some who have studied the effects of temperature on sleep have found that there may be a range of temps that is most conducive to achieving good sleep.  Many people have issues falling asleep, or staying that way, and constantly struggle with their problem.  Some of the findings of studies indicate that the best range of temperatures to support sleep is 65-72 degrees.  Some concluded that the ideal temp is 68 degrees.  Some of this is based on the idea that warmer temperatures may inhibit the full sleep cycle.

Temperature for Losing Weight

So many people have difficulties with weight loss that it has become a large market for products that may help.  Studies in this area have found that there is a very specific range for supporting weight loss.  This range is 64-67 degrees.  With such a narrow margin, there must be something to it.  Some have gone so far as to say that those who shiver may burn calories at as much as five times their normal rate. For those brave enough to give it a try, it could be a way to get some fast results.

To Each Their Own

We each must decide just how we can make our lives better, and this may mean working out things such as sleeping better.  I remember when I was young and sleeping best when outside temperatures were cold and I slept under heave covers.  After having trouble sleeping for quite a long time, I tried lowering my thermostat each night before going to bed.  I had pretty good success.  I now make this a practice on a regular basis, and it works pretty well.  If you wonder about this, it is easy enough to try.
