3 Tips to a Better Night of Sleep

By Virginia Laird

A good night of sleep goes a long way in making sure you have a great day. Where there is a lack of sleep, there can be an increase in stress and illness. Rather than allowing a lack of sleep to stop you, it is time to do what is necessary to take control of your sleeplessness and turn it into a great night of rest. A few tips to help you get better sleep include:

  • Make time to exercise
  • Go to bed at the same time each night
  • Have a bedtime routine

Make Time to Exercise

Exercise can help promote a better night of sleep. Research suggests that working out can burn calories and energy that can help the body rest. Health and wellness experts suggest that those who need help finding a better night of sleep should consider adding a daily workout a couple of hours prior to going to bed. These workouts can be a jog, brisk walk, or a trip to the gym. It is suggested that you should exercise for at least 30 minutes each day to help you achieve a better night of sleep.

Go to Bed at the Same Time Each Night

Research indicates that going to bed at the same time each night can be helpful in getting enough sleep. Just like children are trained to go to bed at the same time, adults too can train their bodies to go to bed at a certain time each night as well. Experts admit that having a bedtime and sticking to it can help you achieve a better sleep. Although you may be skeptical at the thought of giving yourself a bedtime, it is worth a try. Start tonight setting a bedtime and stick to it for a few weeks and see if it helps improve your ability to sleep.

Have a Bedtime Routine

Experts suggest that not only going to bed at the same time, but having a bedtime routine, can help improve sleep. These routines should be simple and brief, but enough to help the body relax. Experts suggest that stretching, meditation, reading, and other low-key activities can be included in your routine. It may take some trial and error for you to decide what works best when trying to go to bed. These same professionals suggest that no more than 20 minutes of routine is sufficient. If you do not already have a routine, start one that can help you relax physically and mentally. For those who have a routine and still struggle to get enough sleep, change up yours.

Sleep is vital; do what is necessary for you to get the best sleep possible.
