5 Methods for Managing Men's Health
By Brandi Goodman
Prostate Health Month in September is supported by the Men's Health Network. Men are typically more likely than women to avoid poor health symptoms and finding ways to get better. However, men too need to manage their health if they hope to remain pain and illness-free.
Improve Diet
One of the first and easiest steps to take is to make improvements to the diet. You have to eat to survive, so it's just a matter of choosing better foods. Start small and add one or two new foods to your menu each week until you're starting to make better food choices overall. Vegetables are ideal for prostate health and health overall.
Add Exercise
You need to add more exercise into your day if you want your health improve. Simply taking the stairs instead of the elevator or going for a walk on your lunch break are ways to start. The goal should be at least 30 minutes per day.
Talk About Your Mental Health Struggles
Many men believe they should keep their mental health struggles to themselves. Some don't want to be seen as unmanly if they discuss what's bothering them. This needs to stop. Men, too, have troubles that should be talked about so it's not kept inside causing stress. Too much stress leads to poor sleep and therefore poor health.
Get More Sleep
It can be easy to skip sleep when you have so much on your to-do list. But this can cause worsening problems for you down the road. Get more sleep each night so you're fully rested and able to take on the day. Turn off your phone, relax and unwind before bed, and make sure there's no light or sound that will disturb you. Try to stick to the same sleep and wake schedule so your body gets used to it.
Find Something You Enjoy
You don't want to go through the motions in life and never truly enjoy what you're doing. Find something you enjoy that can keep you motivated, happy, and feeling well. Spend time with friends, join a class or club, play a sport, or look for another activity or hobby that piques your interest. It will improve your mental health which can boost your health overall.
Managing men's health can be accomplished as long as you have some methods in mind to follow. Start making small changes and you'll soon see the difference they make in your overall health and well-being.
