Fitness Resolutions That Can Make Your Year
By Brandi Goodman
Lots of people aspire to lose weight or become more fit in the new year. The problem is -- many make these general resolutions without putting much thought into how they'll actually achieve them. Setting some specific fitness resolutions can help you make your year what you want.
Add More Movement
Something as simple as adding more movement into your daily routine can be a major help. Opt for taking the stairs instead of using the elevator. Bike to work instead of driving. Get up and exercise as you watch TV. Making some small changes and getting more general movement into your day can help you become more fit and meet the goals you're striving for.
Get Fit With a Friend
You may not stay motivated to work out if you're doing it alone. Get fit with a friend instead and it can help you both stay on track. You can schedule a meet-up once a week at a local gym, join a fitness class together, or even just play a game of basketball at one of your homes.
Keep a Fitness Journal
Journaling your workouts can help you stay motivated to continue with them. It will also help you to see what days and times you tend to find the time for exercise most so you can set a schedule for yourself going forward. You'll also get to watch how your results change over time. Maybe you only get in five push-ups when you start but can get up to 20 after a month of doing them regularly. This is great motivation as well to keep going as you track your progress.
Alternate Between Strength Training and Aerobic Exercise
You don't want to follow the same routine each day. You should switch it up so you can target different areas of your body as well as receive different benefits. You might do some aerobic exercise on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays but try strength training on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This will help you to lose or maintain weight while also toning up and gaining strength and stability.
Achieve your fitness resolutions by setting specific and attainable goals. You don't want to simply say you need to be more fit. Following a specific exercise routine or joining a class are just a couple of options you have that will better help you meet your objectives. Work on a more fit and healthy you in the new year with this in mind.
