Dr. Brad Hendricks joined The Joint Chiropractic family in 2014 and became owner of the Cottonwood Heights clinic in 2015. A graduate of Brigham Young University with a bachelor of science degree in human biology, he received his doctorate of chiropractic from Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in 1989.
“I love the natural side of healing,” Dr. Hendricks says. “I like how I can assist the body’s ability to heal and achieve balance.
“The other thing I really enjoy is working in an environment where most people leave with a smile on their face and feel good about coming to see me.”
He is happy to be in Cottonwood Heights. It’s been quite a trip to get here from the small farming community in Washington where he grew up.
“I worked for six years in Los Angeles after graduation,” Dr. Hendricks says. “I ran a couple personal injury and worker’s comp clinics and was a QME -- qualified medical examiner -- for the state of California. I moved to Salt Lake in 1993 and joined a large multi-disciplinary clinic with MD, DC, PT, massage, acupuncture and rehab treatments. In 2000 I opened a similar clinic in Draper, and practiced with my partners there for about eight years. I stopped practicing for a few years while I worked on a start-up company that did online wellness but I missed the patient interaction. So, when I saw The Joint model, it made sense to start practicing again.”
In his spare time, Dr. Hendricks loves to read “anything from novels to biographies to non-fiction,” he says. “I like to spend time outside biking, hiking and golfing. I also picked up the game of pickleball and enjoy playing as much as I can.”
He and wife Catherine -- they were college sweethearts -- have four grown children, a granddaughter, and a cat named Henry.
“I started school as a pre-med major and was planning on going to medical school, but after a time, I started thinking more about natural healing and chiropractic made sense,” Dr. Hendricks says.
Another thing that makes sense to him is The Joint Chiropractic.
“I like The Joint model and philosophy, that patients can get the care they need easily and affordably,” Dr. Hendricks says. “I like the simplicity of the practice, especially not having to deal with the hassles of insurance billing and coding, and I can focus only on patient care.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Hendricks says he always has some baby back ribs in his refrigerator. “I love to smoke a rack of ribs anytime I want,” he says.
If he could share those ribs with any four people from history, he would guarantee himself a decent night of conversation.
“I would include Bono, who’s one of the greatest songwriters and rock singers,” he says. “I came of age in the ‘80s, so he’s one of my heroes. Brian Regan is one of the funniest comics of all time; I love to laugh and he would entertain me endlessly. Ben Shapiro is one of the smartest guys I’ve ever listened to and I would love to sit down with him and see if I could keep up. And finally, I would invite Leonardo DaVinci. He was the epitome of genius in so many areas, I would love to find out what his thought processes were.”
DaVinci would no doubt be impressed by the coolest thing Dr Hendricks has ever done.
“I had a competition ski boat for many years and I once learned to barefoot waterski,” he says, “and that is cool because it’s freaking barefoot waterskiing!”
