3 Ways to Improve Your Work Life
By Rachel Shouse
Your workday could take up a large portion of your day. Some even have to travel and are away from home for long periods of time. That knowledge makes it easy to imagine why work has such a large impact on us, our days, and our relationships. It can be hard to compartmentalize so many different areas of your life, which can cause areas to bleed into each other. Improving the problematic parts of your life can prevent this from happening. Educating yourself on what burnout is, learning new tips for work stress relief, and improving work snacking habits can and will improve your days at work.
Signs That You're Overworked
You're the first person who will know when you're overworked. Dreading the thought of work isn't sustainable. Something is going to happen eventually and it's going to make your daily life that much worse. Using drugs or alcohol, feeling tired throughout your day, and lacking or diminishing productivity and motivation are only a few symptoms of burnout.
Stopping problems like these from leaking into other areas of your life is almost impossible. There are ways to help prevent and/or eliminate these problems, so fret not.
Tips for Work Stress Relief
Stress causes a multitude of problems. It may feel like it affects your mental health the most, but it has a horrible effect on your physical health as well. Stress can even impair your immune system making it harder for you to heal from even a simple virus. Here are a few tips to help relieve some of your work stress.
- Communicate problems and concerns with your boss
- Contemplate how to make difficult tasks easier
- Take regular vacation days or vacations
Improving Eating Habits at Work, Among Other Problems
It can be hard, not snacking at work. This can be doubly difficult if you work in close proximity to others -- as they'll have to eat at some point as well. Keeping healthy snacks available in your desk or work area could help you stay away from the vending machines. Alongside that, it would help if candy bowls or other treat bowls were traded out for healthy options -- like fruit.
Eating a couple extra snacks every day adds hundreds of empty calories to your system. Of course you're going to snack at work, so think of keeping healthy options available. It's also helpful to take periodic walks throughout your day. Even short spurts of physical activity burns calories.
Work can and will be hard at times. Changing some of your habits and being a little more mindful could aid you in fixing some of these problems. It's important that you keep your health in mind, even at work.
