Chiropractic Care Promotes Athletic Performance
By Virginia Laird
Former Giants punter Steve Weatherford credited chiropractic care to his long, healthy, injury-free NFL career. There is no surprise that professional athletes, especially football players, have a need for frequent adjustments. I can’t even begin to imagine the aches and pain that come with the job of being tackled, much less the loss of spinal mobility upon each hit the player takes. It is with this immediate need for adjustments that each NFL team keeps a chiropractor on staff. Although Weatherford gives credit to his NFL chiropractor, he attributes much of his success to his beginning chiropractic care at a young age.
There are many reasons to see a chiropractor, including preventative care. Utilizing chiropractic care as a preventative measure encourages the body to maintain healthy functions and overall wellness. Preventative care will help your body in the following ways:
- Maintains spinal mobility
- Helps to prevent injuries
- Increases athletic performance
Maintains Spinal Mobility
Most people have been the victim to back pain. Those who have experienced this know how devastating it can be to your regular routine. The spine is a very delicate part of the body. Often, the movement of the spine goes unrecognized until it prevents activity. Rather than waiting for such pain to decrease your mobility, beat it by seeing your chiropractor regularly. Having regular adjustments can help your spine to remain in proper alignment and mobility.
Helps Prevent Injuries
Injuries can happen easily when you try to accomplish a task without using proper form. An example of this could be performing lunges. Although lunges are a fantastic workout for your body, when done incorrectly lunges can cause damage to the knees, hips and lower back. Likewise when the body is not in proper alignment, it can put you at a higher risk for injury. Let’s be real for a minute, no one likes to be injured. Wouldn’t it be nice to prevent any injury prior to it taking over your body? Chiropractic care can help your body maintain its mobility and alignment, thus keeping the body at a lower risk for injury.
Increases Athletic Performance
Athletes rely on their ability to be mobile. When an athlete loses any mobility it puts a damper on the performance. Whether it is a high school athlete or a professional athlete, neither would like to lose the ability to play at peak level. Regular chiropractic adjustments can help maintain and restore mobility. This can allow an athlete to always be his or her best.
