Healthy Habits Help Halt the Flu
By Virginia Laird
Although there is no sure way to avoid falling victim to the flu, there are a few things you can do to halt the spread of these germs. For millions, the flu vaccine is helpful in preventing the illness from taking over their homes. Still, there are plenty who prefer to avoid it. While the flu vaccine can be helpful in preventing the illness, even it is not a certain antidote in prevention. Experts say that healthy living is best to help keep the flu germs away. A few things you should consider adding to your lifestyle include:
- Wash your hands often
- Get plenty of sleep
- Drink enough water
Wash Your Hands Often
It has been proven time and again that routine hand washing is one of the best ways to prevent the spreading of germs. For those who are trying to prevent the flu from taking over their homes, it is imperative that you wash your hands often. Some experts say that those who wash their hands fewer than seven times each day are not washing enough. Make sure you are taking the time to wash your hands after coming in contact with others, before handling food, after visiting the restroom, and after pumping your gas, among other times.
Get Plenty of Sleep
Getting plenty of sleep is essential in preventing illness from taking over your body. This is especially true during the flu season. While flu season has not hit an all-time high just yet, it is beginning to show its presence. It is suggested that the average adult get at least six hours of sleep each night. And yet, there are plenty who need much more than this. Make sure that you are making the time necessary to get plenty of sleep right away. For many this can only happen as you implement a bedtime. Do what works best for you to get the sleep you need to remain healthy.
Drink Enough Water
Staying properly hydrated is one way to boost the immune system and help prevent illness. According to research, when the body lacks its proper hydration, it is more susceptible to falling ill. There is evidence that indicates you should consume at least half of your body weight in ounces of water each and every day. If you are not consuming this amount of water, now is the time to begin doing so. This can require you to give up soda, juice or tea and instead reach for water so that you can promote your health and prevent illness from taking over your body during this flu season.
Take the steps needed to help decrease your odds of falling victim to the flu.
