How to Eat Healthier in 3 Simple Steps

By Genevieve Cunningham

For most people, eating healthier is a good idea. Why does unhealthy food have to be so tasty? Perhaps one of the biggest obstacles to having a fit body is maintaining a well-balanced diet. The good news is that it's possible. The bad news is that it can be a difficult change to make in your life. If you would like to make eating healthy just a little bit easier, take a look at these three simple steps to eating a healthy diet.

Say No to Dessert

Perhaps one of the first steps that you should make is to stop eating dessert. Though some desserts can be healthy, most are riddled with sugar and excessive calories. To get moving on a healthy course, just say no to all desserts. As you get a handle on your diet, you may be able to add this little treat back into your menu. But for now, the easiest thing is to nix dessert and the many calories that come with it.

Say Yes to Veggies

Once you have the dessert under control, it's time to control your side dishes. One of the easiest ways to make this happen, is to simply choose vegetables. If a vegetable is an option, choose it. Choose it over any starchy options or even over bread. For many people, this can be really difficult. But you may be shocked at the number of calories that this can help you avoid and how much better you'll feel once you make this habit stick.

Stick With Water

Begin this step whenever you feel ready. If you think it would be a good first step, start it then. If you're not quite ready, then hold off a bit. But whenever you think you can do it, give up your flavored drinks and stick to plain water. Water helps our metabolism and digestion move more quickly, and it definitely helps us eat fewer calories. Because soda and other drinks can be addictive, this can be a tough one. But if you can make this change, you will definitely be taking your health and diet in the right direction.

Eating a healthy and well balanced diet takes dedication and patience. You'll probably have to teach yourself a new way of eating. Use these tips to help you get started. Though it can feel like a serious challenge, the long-term effects to your health and the way that you feel will be well worth the effort you put forth.
