3 Items to Add to Your Breakfast Menu
By Genevieve Cunningham
Breakfast. You're supposed to eat it, right? It's the most important meal of the day and all that jazz. But here's the truth: It's only the most important meal of the day if you treat it that way. If you're stopping for donuts every morning, you're quickly turning your breakfast into one of the worst meals of the day. So how can you boost your health and keep breakfast healthy? It's easy! To get your breakfast menu moving in the right direction, take a look at these three items to add today.
Water
It might not sound like the most appealing option, but water is actually a really healthy item to drink first thing in the morning. Research suggests that water may actually wake us up even more than coffee -- if only we'll give it a try. But beyond waking us up, it can also boost metabolism and digestion. Water is a great way to get both the body and the mind moving. It might take some adjustments, but do your best to get just a little water in the morning, and you'll be setting yourself for better health all day long.
Probiotics
Along with a healthy multivitamin, probiotics are an excellent choice for prevention and general wellness. Why? Because most of us don't keep the healthiest diet. We eat too many processed foods and too much candy. We eat foods and take medicines that destroy the natural flora in our gut. And when this natural flora is destroyed, it can lead to serious illness. By taking a probiotic, you can restore the healthy bacteria (and health, too!).
Fish Oil
Fish oil is really good for both the heart and the joints. It decreases the risk of major heart disease, and it can help to reduce pain and stiffness in the joints. Take it every morning with your breakfast, and you'll be giving your body a significant boost. Just keep in mind that, for some people, fish oil can create bloating. If this happens to you, try a different brand until you find something that agrees with your stomach.
Breakfast can be the healthiest meal of the day! But you'll have to plan ahead and make a conscious effort to keep the menu healthy. Use these tips to get moving in the right direction, and you'll be moving toward a healthy breakfast and healthier life in no time at all.
