3 Healthy Fall Activities for the Whole Family
By Virginia Laird
There is something breathtaking about this time of year. Families far and wide thrive on getting outside and spending time together. Fall is one the best times of the year to begin taking in the great outdoors. With cooler temperatures beginning to give some relief from the grueling summer heat, it can be exciting to begin planning family adventures. When outlining these excursions, keep in mind there are plenty of things you can do to keep it inexpensive. A few healthy activities that are fantastic for fall includes:
- Go for a hike
- Plan a picnic
- Consider riding horses
Go For a Hike
One of the best activities for the entire family is to hike. While many automatically mentally relate hiking to extreme walking, which includes plenty of inclines, this type of trail is not necessary. Many communities are littered with plenty of trails that offer a variety of challenges (or not). Health and wellness experts suggest that hiking is great exercise for everyone involved. Research suggests it can strengthen your cardio, burn calories, and build muscle. It is best to know your trail before you head out, especially if you are bringing along young children or elderly adults.
Plan a Picnic
Another healthy and exciting activity for everyone in the family is planning a picnic. Health and wellness experts advise that picnics get families outdoors and active. During this time, families have an opportunity to plan a healthy meal. Choosing to include a well-balanced meal during your family fun outings can set a great (and healthy) example for your children. If you really want to get your children involved in planning some of your family excitement, allow them to help plan the picnic meal.
Consider Riding Horses
For those who like a little more excitement in life, taking the family on a horseback ride can be adventurous. Most of these trails are speckled with changing leaves of the variety of fall colors, a crisp fall breeze, and every other beautiful part of nature. Along with the lovely view, another benefit is getting out in the fresh air. Research suggests that fresh air can provide a boost to your immune system and clear your head and help reduce stress. Each of these benefits can help improve your health, as well as the health of everyone in your family.
Locate your favorite outdoor spots and start planning the fun family adventure that is certain to be in store.
