4 Tips for Finishing the School Year Strong
By Brandi Goodman
The end of the school year is fast approaching. With one to two months left in many districts, now is the time to start thinking about how to wrap up the year in healthy and meaningful ways. You need to be sure you're finding ways to ease your stress as the final tests get underway and grades are calculated. Finish your year strong with these tips in mind.
Maintain Your Sleep Routine
Days may be getting longer, with the sun still shining near bedtime. Despite this fact, it's still important that you get the adequate rest you need to thrive during the day. Make sure you're still maintaining your sleep routine and going to bed at the same time as usual so you're well-rested and ready to take on the school day. Get blackout curtains or a mask if needed to block out light.
Set a Goal for Each Class
You're not going to feel the same about each class you're in. Say you're great at computers and getting an A already. Your goal may be to simply enjoy the remainder of the class while you're in it. If you're struggling in science, though, you'll need to set a better goal for this course. Perhaps you'll want to study for 30 minutes each night so you can pass that final exam or vow to earn at least a C or better. Having some sort of goal can help you keep focus.
Replace Your Tools
It may seem senseless to replace your tools with the school year so close to finishing, but having proper writing utensils and other school essentials is key to success. If your crayons are broken or pencils are down to stubs, it will be difficult to work with them, making you frustrated and less eager to work at all. Replace the tools that need it the most and go to school each day with items that work well so you can do your best.
Find Ways to Relieve Stress
Stress is at an all-time high as the year ends. You may be worried about whether or not you'll pass those final tests or if you'll pass the grade at all. Find ways to relieve stress so you can ease your mind. Tell yourself positive affirmations when you start to think you can't do it. "I can do it!" you should say. "I'll study hard and I'll pass the test." You should also make time each night for friends or family or doing something you enjoy. A full night of studying can leave you even more anxious and wound up. Set time for work, but also time for de-stressing so you can sleep easier.
Do your best to finish the school year strong. With these tips in mind, you should be better able to maintain your stress levels and continue the remainder of the year with goals in mind. Once the year is finished, you can enjoy your summer and take the break you need.
