Use These 5 Herbs for Pain Management

By Brandi Goodman

Chronic pain can quickly wear down your body and mind. Whether you're suffering from regular back pain, headaches, tension in your neck or shoulders, or elsewhere, the goal is to get the discomfort diminished. Several herbs are beneficial for pain management. Give them a try and see how well your symptoms get reduced.

Have Headaches? Try Feverfew

Aspirin may tone down your pain level, but it doesn't always take it away completely. Over time, too much pain medication can wreak havoc on other organs in your body. Give feverfew a try instead. It works to restrict your blood vessels so they don't contact as often. This can help reduce inflammation and discomfort. Headaches can cause muscle spasms, which feverfew works to prevent.

Experiencing Joint Pain? Try Ginger

Joint pain is incredibly common. With so many joints within the body, there's bound to be at least a few of them that hurt at any given time. Whether you're sitting all day, have a manual labor job, or consistently bend and twist, your joints are going to struggle. Ginger works to reduce inflammation in these areas and eliminate the ache you're feeling.

Use Peppermint as a Painkiller

Soothe aches with peppermint. The natural painkiller is great for tension headaches and sore muscles in particular. Drink it in tea form or use the essential oil version in a diffuser. Even just the scent of peppermint can work wonders for pain relief.

Muscles Spasming? Try Valerian Root

If your muscles are overly tense and spasming, you'll need to find a way to get some relief. The constant spasms can lead to some serious discomfort. Valerian root is an antispasmodic. It will slow down all that spasming and help you get some tension relief.

Use Oregano

Oregano works for all sorts of ailments. Whether you have a migraine, sore throat, or arthritis pain, oregano can help. Adding the spice to your food isn't enough. You need oil of oregano to get the benefits you're looking for.

Give these herbs a try and see if they can diminish your pain levels. If you're still experiencing aches, stop in at The Joint for an assessment.
