There's Nothing Stopping You From Great Health

By Genevieve Cunningham

Everyone wants great health. Seriously, we want it all. We want glowing skin, perfect teeth, optimal brain function, and muscles that pop with definition. But here's the harsh truth: Very few actually obtain this kind of health. But why? Is it because we can't? Is illness and injury standing in our way? Is it lack of time and money? While these excuses may be legitimate in certain situations, the most honest answer for most people is nothing. Nothing stands in our way except for ourselves. Luckily, this is something that you can correct! If you want to take your health to the next level, take a look at how to get out of your own way and finally make progress.

Why is My Health Poor?

The first thing you'll need is a real assessment of your health. Go to the doctor if you need to, but at the very least, make a list of legitimate health concerns. Real concerns might be diabetes, a heart condition, or an autoimmune disorder. Or it might be excess weight or frequent headaches. These conditions are things that are either out of our control or need attention. Get in touch with your base health level, and then you  can make a plan that works.

How Am I Getting in My Own Way?

Once you know how your own health is holding up, you can determine if you're contributing to any of those ailments. Are you skipping workouts? Are you cheating on your diet every day? Are you staying up late in favor of another episode on TV instead of getting sleep? Bottom line, are you making excuses? If you answered yes, then you're definitely contributing to at least some of your health issue. The good news? If you're causing it, then a change of behavior may turn it around.

What Can I Do?

The most important thing is to begin slowly. Changes don't happen overnight. It will be a long process. Start by focusing on one area of improvement. Try to improve your sleeping habits. Focus on going to bed on time, avoiding technology, and actually getting adequate rest. Once this habit is mastered, you can add another. It will take a long time to really see significant change, but if you stick with it and are willing to work, you can improve your health for good.

We very often get in our own way of success. Why? Who knows! But if we learn to change our habits one at a time, we can change our health for the better. Get to know yourself, your body, your excuses, and then make changes from there! In a year, you'll be so glad you started toward better health today.
