Addictions That Might Actually Be Healthy

By Genevieve Cunningham

When most of us think of addictions, we think about the really bad things. We think about drugs or alcohol. Maybe we think about that caffeine addiction that we can't function without. But are addictions always bad? Or is it possible to be addicted to good things? If you have an addictive personality and you'd like to change your lifestyle for the better, take a look at these three addictions that might actually improve your life and keep you healthy.

Drinking Water

A lot of people are addicted to drinking soda. They're addicted to the sugar spike. They're addicted to the caffeine. They're even addicted to the fizzy and the flavor. But if you want to be healthy, replace this addiction with one for water. Drinking water can certainly make you feel better. It can help move digestion, clear the mind, clear the skin, and keep your body hydrated and healthy. If you pay attention to how much better your body feels, it may not be as hard as you think to make this switch.

Lotion

As a society, we don't moisturize enough. And our skin is definitely suffering! Moisturizer helps keep the skin soft, supple, and clear. It helps you retain elasticity as you age. It fights wrinkles and dark spots. Make lotion a thing in your life! Apply it first thing in the morning and then reapply throughout the day. The more you make this a habit, the happier you'll be with the feel and appearance of your skin.

Clean Teeth

You shouldn't really make it an addiction, but cleaning your teeth should definitely be a habit. Clean teeth feel better, look better, and can keep the state of your mouth in a better condition. A healthy mouth is indicative of a healthier body, which means a dirty mouth probably indicates other problems in the body. Start by sticking with a brushing routine, a flossing routine, and finding a mouthwash that you like. Then see a dentist. Then make these regular habits! This addiction can improve physical and mental health, and may help you keep your natural teeth well into old age.

It's important to remember that everything is best in moderation. Even good addictions can take a negative turn. But make sure you're focusing on doing the good things! Focus on the good habits and slowly eliminate the bad. Use these habits as a place to start, and you'll be living a healthier life and feeling better than ever in no time at all.
