You May Be Able to Add Years No Matter Where You Live

By Tom Herrin

There are often reports that come out touting the benefits of living in some special location because of the health and longevity of the people who live there.  While climate may have some influence, personal lifestyle choices can play a huge role.  More recent studies have shown that people can institute changes in their own lifestyles that can reverse or delay aging with some of those good results after only a few weeks or months of sustaining the changes.  Some things may have to do with genetics, but large portions can be affected by adopting good changes in lifestyle.

What May Seem Natural Might Not Be So Much

As people age as adults, that is move from their twenties and thirties to older, they may likely have some things happen.  Blood pressure and blood sugar tend to increase.  The heart moves less blood throughout the body.  Good cholesterol may go down while bad goes up.  The body experiences some changes in general makeup.  Muscles become less dense, fat increases.  The waistline enlarges while flexibility and reactions decline.

There Is A Bright Side

As bleak as it may sound to hear about the changes, many of them can actually be managed.  In other words, they don’t necessarily have to happen, or not to an extreme.  Better news for any is that even people who have been inactive all their lives can develop an active routine and experience improvements after only a few weeks or months.  A good, regular exercise program doesn’t have to be a killer, but it does need to challenge the body.  It has been proven to improve cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar, and blood flow.

People in Other Places May Have Something Right

A classic example of other cultures that exhibit good health and longevity is the Japanese.  Much of their success is often attributed to a simpler, lower fat diet that is very high in omega-3.  They consume much more fish than Americans who tend to take in more red meats and others that contain not-so-good fats.  If you are looking for improvements in your diet, take a good look and start today at the same time you decide to start your exercise plan.  Of course, that is only if you are interested in adding years to your life.  If not, go ahead and continue whatever you have going, but remember there may be a price that is ultimately paid.
