Even Those Who Don't, Should

By Tom Herrin

The likes and dislikes of people vary.  A bit like a good fairy tale, when it comes to eating breakfast, some prefer light ones, some prefer heavy ones, and some prefer to skip it completely.  While it is certainly a personal choice, people really should not go without eating breakfast. Whether they eat a large one or much smaller one, they can greatly benefit from one that has been properly planned and includes the right combination of nutrients.  It can provide the kind of start that people need as they face their busy day.

It May Help Manage Weight

Breakfast can be a key meal for establishing a person’s needs for the rest of the day when they eat one with the nutrients that will satisfy their hunger.  Many times, this hunger may be caused by a lack of certain things in their diet. When this meal contains vitamins, minerals, and omega-3s, the appetite may be suppressed.  This means that people are more likely to feel satisfied and less likely to snack or eat between meals.

It May Help Diabetics

Many people who have diabetes, or are prone to have it, need to maintain a very regular eating schedule.  Going for extended periods of time without eating can create some serious problems because it disrupts the sugar levels and they may experience lows that could be dangerous.  Balance is important. It is also critical for them to have a diet with pretty substantial nutrition. It is important to have plenty of whole grains as well as some high quality low-fat dairy products.

It May Help with Cholesterol

Problems with cholesterol are common with many people.  It may be related to diet, exercise, or genetics. Some of these cannot be controlled, but making the right adjustments to our diets may help.  Eating a breakfast containing good fibers can make an impact on cholesterol levels. Soluble fibers can help to lower levels of LDL, or bad cholesterol.  I eat oats for breakfast every day and have had great results with cutting my LDL levels by more than half. Breakfast is a valuable way to start the day.  It can be a great opportunity to include those things that you feel can supply your needs. Personalize yours and let it improve your health.
