The Harsh Truth About Your Diet
By Genevieve Cunningham
Most of us don't really like to think about our diet. Even though we want to be fit and healthy, we don't want to change what we eat. We don't want to talk about it, and we don't want to hear the same old advice. But here's the problem: Getting fit and healthy requires you to be serious about your diet. You don't have to restrict too much. You don't have to avoid all goodies. But you do have to follow some basic rules. The hard part is knowing which rules to follow. If you're ready to take your health to the next level through the right diet, take a look at these harsh truths that you need to know to move forward.
You're Probably Eating Too Much
It might not seem like it, but chances are good that you're consuming too many calories in a day. When many people begin counting their calories, they're shocked to find that the number is much higher than they thought. Why? Often it's because your portions are too big or that "little bite" here and there is actually hundreds of calories! If you're serious about getting on top of your diet, count calories for a week or two to assess your own consumption and to adjust where necessary.
You're Eating the Wrong Foods
As a society, we eat all the wrong foods. We eat everything white when it really should be brown -- potatoes, rice, flour. We eat sweets on top of sweets. Many times, even the food marked healthy is actually incredibly bad for us! So what can we do? We can get informed. Read about nutrition. Read about sugar. Read about meat. Then experiment to find what your body likes best, get advice from a doctor or healthcare professional, and stick to a plan that is made specifically for your body and nutritional needs.
You Change With the Fad
A diet should be a constant. You should change it up and adjust from time to time, but you shouldn't be jumping on the newest fad diet. Many people who change their diet but not their lifestyle take this approach, and it never works! Instead, skip the dieting altogether and change your everyday lifestyle. If you stick to this plan, you'll be in better health and closer to your goals before you know it.
Sticking to a healthy diet can feel like a chore. And it's especially tough when you're working and working, and yet nothing is happening. But maybe you just don't have all the information you need. When you're armed with the right knowledge, big things can happen. Use this information to get your diet on track and to move your body and health in the right direction starting today.
