By Virginia Laird
With spring break just a few short weeks away, millions begin to feel the urge to start getting their tan in tune. However, experts suggest that turning to a tanning bed to do so can prove to be a disaster for your health and your skin. Although the beautiful glow can be one to pine for, it is the effects of tanning -- which can have those who use this source as a means to achieve the perfect tan -- that leaves many full of regret years after the initial tan. A few reasons to consider skipping out on the tanning trend include:
- Tanning beds do not supply Vitamin D

- Tanning is highly addictive
Tanning Beds Do Not Supply Vitamin D
Many who turn to tanning beds to reach their ultimate glow wrongly believe that this is a good source of Vitamin D. While this vitamin can be found in some UV rays, research suggests that most tanning beds use a UV bulb which does not provide such. Furthermore, health and wellness experts suggest that simply spending a minimum of 10 minutes outside daily can get you the amount of Vitamin D necessary to remain healthy.
Tanning Can Increase Your Odds of Developing Skin Cancer
Health and wellness experts admit that those who use tanning beds have an increased risk of developing skin cancer. Research indicates that at least half of those who routinely use tanning beds develop skin cancer later in life. More and more of these cases and are found to be melanoma, which can be deadly. Although there are many who choose to take their chances, dermatologists insist there are no winners in this game. Save yourself some heartache and scare -- stop using tanning beds today.
Tanning is Highly Addictive
Although the warmth of the lights can be tempting to enjoy, it has been proven that routine use of tanning can become an addiction. This can prove to be expensive and a detriment to your health. Like any other addictions, there comes a point when the reliance of it gets in the way of health. Experts admit that the more you repeat the exposure in a tanning bed, the more dangerous this addiction can become. Do yourself a favor and simply do not begin this addictive behavior.
