A Portable Exercise May Encourage More Participation
By Tom Herrin
Many times, the problem people have with maintaining a regular exercise program is that they say it is inconvenient. This may be the case, especially for those activities that require a lot of elaborate equipment. That is really a mindset, however, that does not have to be the case. When exercise is easier, it can take away that excuse and allow people to get on with a program. Jumping rope requires nothing but a rope. Many people prefer to jump without shoes because they feel it gives them better control or just a better feel for what they are doing.
It Can Reduce Foot and Ankles Injuries
As people age, injures are more common as a result of simple activity. When they can do things to fortify their bodies against such injuries, they can be ahead of the game. Jumping rope can help to train themselves to land on the balls of their feet rather than flat-footed. It also strengthens the legs. This can carry over to other games and activities so that as they move around in them, they will land better on their feet. This may alleviate injuries due to planting and turning incorrectly.
It Can Improve Cardiovascular Health
There is quite a bit of exercise in jumping rope. It can increase the heart rate, which will increase blood flow. This means that it will also improve the breathing rate. Since it can be done at any pace, there is no real rush to be faster or more intense. Improving cardiovascular health will improve the efficiency of the heart. This supports all the activity the body does. Jumping rope for only a few minutes a day several days per week can do a lot. Since there is so little space required to jump, people can do so inside the home, outdoors, or even some small space in their office.
It Can Improve Brain Function
When people jump rope, they will need to perform a few functions at the same time. It can help to develop both sides of the brain. It can also improve the ability to focus and do several things at once. It is believed it can help improve reading ability, improve memory, and improve mental alertness. Why not grab that rope and give it a try? There is little to lose, except maybe a few pounds.
