Don't Let Pain Get the Best of You
By Donna Stark
I think it's fair to say that we have all come into contact with a difficult person at some point or another in our lives. Whether it's a stranger, a coworker, or someone in your family, those moments can certainly become very unpleasant, can't they? I know that I have walked away from situations with difficult people and have immediately told my daughters, "Don't ever let me become like that." Maybe you have even said something along those lines as well, but honestly, don't we all have bad days when we are a little grumpier than usual? And how does pain tie into it our moods?
Don't Become That Person
I've seen it happen far too many times. A person who was once on top of the world, who appeared to be a master at happiness, and who had a smile for everyone, turn into something completely opposite on those really bad days. It was during those flare-ups of pain that they became the person they swore they wouldn't be. And truth be told, they didn't do it intentionally. You see, that's what pain does. It steals a person's joy. So if you can relate, take a look at the following suggestions on how to fight that pain with some natural and simple changes to your lifestyle.
- Weight loss - Those extra pounds you are carrying can make a significant impact on the amount of pain you experience on a daily basis. It's important to lose the weight so that you can lose the extra stress that is being placed on your joints. And if you find that you are struggling to lose it on your own, reach out for help.
- Physical activity - It hurts to move, I get it, but barring any injuries or medical conditions that don't allow you to, exercise is critical to maintaining joint function, flexibility, and range of motion. If your body hurts too much, consider low-impact exercises such as swimming, cycling, and walking.
- Healthy diet - Obviously your diet is important but it's important in more ways than you can imagine. Did you know that if you start including certain anti-inflammatory foods such as berries, fatty fish, and broccoli into your meals, that you can reduce the amount of pain you feel every day? Check it out. You may be surprised!
- Get adjusted - Your local chiropractor can remove the joint restrictions in your body which helps to reduce the inflammation and pain that you may be experiencing. It's the perfect, all-natural way to restore your body's function.
Finding Your Joy
It's easy to say what type of person we want or don't want to be, but when those bad days knock us to the ground, it becomes a lot harder to follow through. So take the necessary steps to avoid that from happening and don't let those days get the best of you. Get ahead of your pain and find your joy!
