Ditch Your Screens for More Fun!
By Donna Stark
You know the importance of walking as much as you can during the day, but did you know it is equally as important to walk away from your screen time, too? That's right! Even if the day is cloudy, a change in scenery can do wonders for your overall health and wellness. Need some inexpensive and fun ideas on what to do? Keep reading!
Fun With the Kids
You know as well as I do that if you leave your kids at home, they are going to head straight to their screens for entertainment, so take them with you and increase the fun for everyone! Head to a neighborhood park or playground, visit a state-run nature center or museum, or spend some time swimming at the pool or beach. Pack a lunch or some snacks and plenty of water so you don't have to rush back home to eat.
Fun by Yourself or With Friends
There are plenty of things to do at home too, so don't think you have to leave to find some fun. You can spend a few hours planting and taking care of your garden, you can pull out your bike and enjoy a ride around town, or you can ask a friend to meet you for a walk and the chance to catch up on each other's lives. Whether you head outdoors alone or plan on meeting friends, there are plenty of activities you can choose to do.
Fun With the Family
If it's hard to get everyone together during the busy week, make an effort to do so over the weekends. Head out for a Saturday morning hike, plan a picnic in the park and bring a kite or badminton set, and take advantage of the cool evenings by eating your dinner outside. Have a fire pit in your backyard? Even better! Light it up and remember to bring the marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate for a sweet night of laughs and good conversation!
A Screenless Summer
Just because screens have become so prevalent in our lives, that doesn't mean we need to become prisoners to them. Walking away from our screens is one of the easiest ways to improve our overall health and wellness, and with the suggestions above, it can be one of the most fun ways too! So, what do you say? Are you ready for less screen time and more adventure this summer? You know what to do!
