Do You Have the Proper Sleep Essentials?
By Donna Stark
Do you wake up in the morning feeling as if you didn't get any sleep at all? Do you take a look at the state of your bedcovers and wonder what in the world happened during the night? If you are experiencing added stress in your life, chances are you might be tossing and turning during the night. And if you are tossing and turning, you aren't getting the sleep your body requires. But what can you do? Well, the first thing you should do is to make sure you have all the essentials required for a good night of rest. Here are a few of them
A Supportive Mattress
Have you ever heard the saying that mattresses are a lot like shoes? What works for one person may not work for you, so you have to go to the store to try them out! Be sure to pick one that offers plenty of support for your body and is comfortable for your particular sleep position.
A Comfortable Pillow
The same thing can be said about your pillow. What works for your friend may not work for you, so be picky here. Some people prefer a thick, firm pillow, others prefer a softer one, and some people don't use any at all! Again, it all depends on your sleep position and your desired comfort level.
The Right Sheets
It doesn't make any sense to cover your bed with flannel sheets in the summer and lighter sheets in the winter, so think about the type of material you choose when making your bed. If you keep your bedroom on the colder side to begin with, you may also want to have plenty of blankets on hand to maintain your warmth.
A White Noise Machine
Whether you have distracting noises you wish to drown out or just want to improve your sleep, a white noise machine could be the answer. Many people swear by the effectiveness of this sleep aid, but if you are hesitant about purchasing one because of its price, try a less expensive approach with a phone app.
A Blackout Shade or Sleep Mask
When it comes to getting a great night of rest, you need total darkness. And the best way to achieve that is with blackout curtains, a blackout shade, or a sleep mask. By utilizing one of these, you will be able to keep the light out of your room and get the rest your body is screaming for.
The Perfect Night
You know your body and brain need quality sleep to settle down, refresh, and recharge for the next day so you can't ignore your sleep issues. Try making some simple changes in your sleep routine, but if the problems persist, see your doctor or chiropractor for help!
