The Worst Nutrition Advice in History

By Sara Butler

Nutrition advice over the years has yielded some less-than-stellar results. Some of the advice that was once popular wasn’t simply bad advice, but potentially harmful advice as well. The worst part of all of this is that some bad nutrition advice still persists. It’s time to learn the truth and stop embracing these terrible pieces of nutrition advice.

Throw Out Egg Yolks

Eggs are one of the most nutritious foods on the entire planet. They’re high in protein, full of vitamins and minerals, full of quality fats, high in antioxidants, and they’re low in calories. But the egg yolks just happen to be high in cholesterol and people were told that due to this, eating egg yolks would raise your blood cholesterol.

It’s now understood that this isn’t the case. You really don’t need to limit your egg intake to two to six eggs per week. You can eat more than that -- yolk and all. That’s because the yolk is where most of the nutrients reside. So, don’t throw away that yolk. Eat them with the knowledge that you are doing your body good.

Food Quality Isn’t as Important as Calories

Most people are under the impression that calories are where all the attention should be focused. While calories are important, they’re not where all your focus should be. The quality of the food you’re eating is important too. Different foods have a different impact on your brain and influence the chemicals that control your eating habits. So, make sure you’re eating quality foods and not just junk or fast food.

Margarine is Better than Butter

The verdict is in and the winner is definitely not margarine. For many years it was believed that butter was bad and processed margarine was good. It’s now understood that the processed oils and fats in margarine are bad for your heart and increases your risk of heart disease. This isn’t permission to eat all the butter your little heart desires, but it is permission to go with butter instead of the highly processed replacement. Just remember -- everything in moderation.

There are all kinds of nutrition advice out there. You should make sure to check with a trusted medical professional such as your chiropractor at The Joint to help you decipher the truth from the bad advice. That way, you can stay healthy and eat right.
