5 Basic Recommendations from the Chiropractor

By Brandi Swieter

Everyone should see a chiropractor. The assessment done by a doctor of chiropractic can help people find underlying problems and get relief for some aches they’ve been experiencing or symptoms they’ve faced. Though many people seek care for a doctor of this nature, not all continue to follow through with what’s recommended to make it worthwhile. Following some basic recommendations from the chiropractor will ensure the adjustment works to provide relief for as long as possible.

Go for a Walk After an Adjustment

Leaving the chiropractor’s office and heading straight to the car is a big mistake. People need to take time after getting an adjustment to allow the good feeling to sink in. Getting into the car and heading into traffic can cause immediate tension, undoing some of the work just done. Going for a short walk afterward is a better solution, helping to further relax the mind and improve benefits.

Maintain Proper Posture

Poor posture is one of the worst things a person can have if they want to prevent pain. Chiropractors recommend maintaining proper posture at all times, and this is especially important when using devices. Too many people slouch down and keep their necks pointed toward the floor as they look at cell phones and tablets. This posture can quickly lead to neck, shoulder, and upper back pain. Keeping the neck and head level and the back upright is important for preventing aches.

Ice Your Injuries

People tend to use heat for injuries because it feels good at the time. Heat can actually cause additional swelling and exacerbate the problem. Ice should always be the first step in trying to limit pain after an injury.

Follow Instructions

The chiropractor gives each patient a set of instructions to follow. Whether these include changing the diet, trying out certain exercises each day, or something else, every person who receives a set to follow must do so if they want to see results. Getting an adjustment but then failing to continue the at-home care prescribed will put a person right back where they started.

Schedule Regular Chiropractic Appointments

Going to the chiropractor once isn’t going to solve all your problems. Anyone who seeks out the assistance of a chiropractor should be sure to follow the recommended guidelines for scheduling future appointments. For some, this may mean coming in once a week for the next few weeks, and every other week after, before less frequent visits are needed. For others, a monthly approach may work well.

Following these basic recommendations from the chiropractor will ensure the service works as intended and people can experience the benefits for longer. Failing to follow these recommendations could mean a pained existence soon after the adjustment is completed.
