4 Chiropractic Tips for Working and Playing Outdoors

By Brandi Goodman

June is Great Outdoors Month. Whether you're outside working in the heat or simply playing a game or enjoying an activity, it's important to take precautions. A few chiropractic tips can help you to make the most of your time outside while remaining free from pain.

Stretch First

Stretching is incredibly important before any activity. Before you start your job, yard work, or even a game of catch you should be sure to stretch so your body is flexible and able to move and bend as needed. Improving your flexibility through stretching is a great way to prepare your joints and prevent injury.

Stay Hydrated

Hydration is another key component of injury prevention. Your joints need to be hydrated so they can remain flexible and working well. If you don't drink enough water while you're working or playing, you'll get tired out faster and not be able to handle the task as long. It will also be more difficult for your body to recover afterward.

Wear the Right Shoes

Lots of people choose sandals in the summertime because they're light and let the feet breathe. These may be fine for a short time outside, but they aren't ideal in most circumstances. You should normally wear tennis shoes or sneakers that are sturdy and comfortable so your feet, legs, and back are protected from all the movement you'll be doing. If you plan on working outside for a while or going for a long walk, then sandals should never be on your feet.

See the Chiropractor Regularly

If you're going to spend most of the month, and the rest of the summer for that matter, outside, then regular visits to the chiropractor are in order. You may be taking all the precautions necessary to avoid pain, but that doesn't mean some minor tension won't still be present after all you spend your time doing. This is especially important if you're working outdoors daily or spending lots of time gardening or tackling outdoor chores. Visit The Joint Chiropractic during their extended walk-in hours for an adjustment.

Great Outdoors Month encourages you to get outside any chance you have. Spend time working, completing tasks, or simply enjoying time in the sun and you'll experience a boost in mood and better well-being. Just be sure to follow some chiropractic tips to keep your back and body pain-free while you're out there.
