Chiropractic Advice for Chronic Sitters
By Brandi Goodman
Some people are chronic sitters. If you find yourself sitting most of the day, whether for work or not, you may be putting your health at risk. Sitting for hours each day makes it more likely to develop blood clots, weight gain, and worse. Take some chiropractic advice so you can combat the symptoms and put yourself in better health.
Take Stretch Breaks
You need to get up and stretch regularly. Whether you have a job that involves sitting, or you're simply sitting at home daily with nothing to do, it's wise to take advantage of some stretch time to loosen up your body and prevent stiffness and pain from setting in. Fail to stretch and you're bound to feel the achiness in your lower back and hips before long.
Invest in an Ergonomic Chair
If you're going to sit all day, you should at least invest in an ergonomic chair. You don't want to sit in a hard, uncomfortable seat that makes you ache the second you sit in it. Use a chair with lumbar support that helps you maintain your posture.
Maintain a Strong Core and Back
Strong core and back muscles can help you sit upright and use proper posture no matter what you're doing. Make sure you're exercising regularly so you can maintain strength in these vital areas. You'll be less likely to feel so sore after a sitting spell if your body is strong and healthy.
Choose Healthy Meals and Snacks
Sitting all day is made even worse when you're snacking too. You shouldn't be eating heavy meals, nor snacking on unhealthy treats throughout the day. Your body needs healthy meals and snacks to thrive. Some options help reduce inflammation and keep joints at their best. Make sure you're eating plenty of them. Fish, whole grains, nuts, leafy greens, and berries are some of the best options.
See a Chiropractor
If you've been sitting for hours each day for quite some time now, you may have some chronic pain that won't go away no matter what advice you take. You should see a chiropractor in that case, and ensure an accurate assessment is completed of your situation. You could have subluxations in place that need to be corrected, or may need specific instructions on exercises to try that can ease tension in your lower back and hips.
