You Can Have a Healthier Diet Without Catching It
By Tom Herrin
Beefing up a diet often means just that, adding more beef to what people currently consume. Some years ago, that would indicate that people were taking in more protein and supplying the needs of the body in a big way. As people have learned more about making better choices about foods, it has become more well-known that having fish as part of a diet on a regular basis can be a way to make a major contribution to improving health. It can do lots of things with the benefits to people ranging from very young to very old. Making fish a regular part of a diet may make it much healthier.
It May Fortify Against Heart Attack and Stroke
Heart and circulatory problems are increasingly common today. Diet and exercise can play a big part either way. Eating more fish has been shown to do a great job of protecting the heart. The general belief is that the omega-3 fatty acids in some fish is almost like a magic potion. A study of more than 40,000 men who worked in the healthcare industry and ate one or more servings per week of fish revealed that they had a 15 percent lower risk of heart disease.
It May Help the Brain
Most people are aware that grey matter plays an important role in the function of the brain. Apparently eating fish can help to preserve that grey matter. Studies have shown that people who eat fish on a regular basis have more grey matter in the brain than those who don't. This means that the brain will have less loss of function and a greater ability to perform the tasks it needs to. Grey matter is responsible for memory, processing information, and making people who they are.
It May Help You Sleep
Many of us have problems with sleep. This can be for a variety of reasons. Noise, light, stress all can be contributors. Some believe that a lack of Vitamin D may be a factor. Fish can be a good source of this important vitamin. A study in which 95 middle-aged men ate salmon three times per week concluded that after six months, the participants were able to sleep and carry out daily functions better. It is thought that the Vitamin D played a part in this. For those with sleep issues, wouldn't it be great if eating fish is an answer to such problems.
