Colorful and Healthy Meals May Be the Same
By Tom Herrin
The ways to make meals as healthy as possible may not be as complicated as some would say. There is not always a magic formula. It may not even be difficult at all. One of the simplest ways to be sure that a diet is somewhat healthy is to make certain that there is lots of color. At one time, some people would have laughed off the notion that color was much of an indicator of healthy meals. For many years, lots of white and brown was thought to be the key to some great meals. That may have been represented by potatoes, rice, gravy, and bread with some kind of meat. It has now known that, for the most part, the more diverse the color, the better.
Reds Are Not Just for Hot
One of the colors that often is left out of the meals of many is red. There is something about it when arranged with other colors that can really set off the plate. When people see red, it is often seen as something bold. This can still go when it comes to foods. Some of them are thought to be good for the eyes as well as helping to cut the risks of stroke and heart disease. Some are even believed to help prevent some cancers. They are a good group. A few of the foods in this color group are strawberries, red peppers, tomatoes, watermelons, and quite a few more.
Greens Have Recognition
Lots of parents told their children to eat their greens. Even if they didn't exactly know why, they knew they were good for them. In some cases, people actually seemed to expect them to taste bad. Greens may help to increase energy as well as to remove toxins. They don't all have to taste bad, either. A few in this group are broccoli, peas, avocado, kiwi, and green apples. It is a pretty good variety of flavors for those who may not like traditional greens.
Have a Little Fun
When you go to the effort to make your meals colorful, it can be healthy and fun. I enjoy adding color to create a better appearance. It can make the whole meal seem more attractive and desirable. When we do this, we are creating a meal that may be a bit healthier than the same old thing. Get creative and see just how much you can do for those bland meals of the past.
