How Important Is Longer Life to You?
By Tom Herrin
Some of us go through life without ever giving any thought to length or quality. It may be a way of avoiding stress, for a while, but it may eventually catch up with us. The desire to live long passes through the minds of many, especially as we have relationships that are meaningful. No matter how we may have mistreated ourselves in the past, it is seldom too late to make changes that may help to improve both quality and length of life. It is best, however, to go ahead and make that commitment sooner rather than later.
Keep on the Go
One of the biggest mistakes that many people make is to get to the point at which they feel they deserve to rest. While that may be true, to some extent, it is critical to our health to keep moving. Whether it is walking, participating in organized exercise, or playing some simple game, movement can accomplish several things. It can provide the opportunity to maintain the heart and circulatory system, help manage some common age-related problems, and provide a way to relieve stress. As we age, we should never retire from living life.
Establish a Good Sleep Routine
A lot of the time, it seems that we really don't understand the function of sleep. We often look for ways to reduce it so that we can have more waking hours to do other things. The fact is that we need some kind of regular sleep habits. It can help us to be revitalized and physically prepare for the next day. Those who are sleep-deprived are much more likely to have accidents and become ill. A few things that may help us to sleep better are to avoid large meals late, turn off electronic devices a while before going to bed, and avoid too much exercise late in the day.
Plan for the Best Measures
Simply wanting to be healthy may be a start, but it is not going to get us there completely. We must seek out ways to keep tabs on our health. Screenings are available for many things today and can be quite useful. Monitoring whatever we can at home is another easy thing. The important thing is to educate ourselves and understand what numbers mean. That way we can know when we need to go to the next step and when we are doing well.
