You Can Be Healthy Without Shoes

By Tom Herrin

In the world of promotions to improve life, lots of things may run through the picture.  We often see all kinds of visions created that may be purported to do more for less.  One of the things we don't see is a push to go barefoot.  Of course, one of the reasons is likely that bare feet are not much of a market in themselves.  There is little to sell.  In reality, walking barefoot may be something that is simple but able to provide some good things for our health.  This does not mean we have to go to some kind of extreme such as walking on hot coals, but walking barefoot may be able to offer a few health perks that are simple but effective.

Gong Barefoot May Help Reduce Inflammation

Anytime we suffer from inflammation, it is uncomfortable.  Pain and inflammation go hand-in-hand as our bodies work to respond to some potential problem.  Many times, it is our response that is more of a problem than whatever has caused it.  In one study, people simulated sleeping on bare ground.  This gave the feeling of ground contact   This apparently limited their cortisol levels and caused them to feel less stressed.  Cortisol is basically a hormone produced by the body that may cause more stress.  It triggers a fight or flight response.

Walking Barefoot May Improve Biorhythms

One of the important things that helps to regulate our internal works is biorhythm.  This is something that serves to keep us on some kind of a schedule.  Biorhythms also affect things such as sleeping, eating, and being active.  When they are off, it can cause us some problems.  When they are working well, we may enjoy better health.  It seems that walking barefoot may have the ability to affect them in a positive way.

The Good Old Days May Have Had Something

I would be willing to venture that most of us spent a good deal of time going barefoot when we were young.  It was kind of second nature.  As a matter of fact, many of us may have never put on shoes until we were going somewhere that may require them.  It was always a good feeling, but we may not have known exactly why.  As it turns out, it may have been boosting our health and causing a natural reaction.  If you are into simple and inexpensive things, try walking barefoot outdoors more.  It can be more than a little exhilarating.
