Heart Healthy Exercises That Really Work

When it comes to keeping the body healthy, there are so many different aspects to think about. The muscles, the lungs, the brain. And each of these parts is so important to our ultimate well-being. But if there’s one area that definitely needs quite a bit of attention, it’s the heart. We can’t live without the heart, period. In order to keep the heart healthy now and long into the future, take a look at these heart-friendly exercises to add to the routine.

Walking

This form of exercise often gets overlooked, but it’s such a great workout for so many different aspects of health. It’s a form of cardio, which means it strengthens the heart and lungs, but it’s also low impact. Because it’s not incredibly strenuous, it’s easier for a large number of people to participate in. Simply pick a time of day, choose a location, set your timer, and get to walking!

Jumping Rope

Anyone remember Jump Rope for Heart? This was an activity done in elementary school for the American Heart Association that raised both awareness and money for heart health. So what makes jumping rope a good heart exercise? This is an excellent form of cardio that really pushes the body and strengthens the heart, but it’s also a ton of fun! This makes it easier to do because you tend not to dread things that are fun. Even a simple 10 minutes a day of jumping rope may be enough to boost overall health including the health of the heart specifically.

Biking

Biking is a good choice for a lot of people because it is another lower impact choice. It can challenge the muscles, lungs, and heart, but without placing too much stress on the joints. The best way to begin a biking habit is to do so slowly. Riding a bike is a lot of fun, which leads a lot of people to overdo it. Doing too much too fast can lead to soreness, so ease into the practice and you’ll probably find a lot of enjoyment and a healthy heart to boot.

Taking care of the heart should definitely be a priority. This precious organ is a necessity, and keeping it as fit as possible can both lengthen life as well as improve the quality. Along with a healthy diet, incorporate one (or all!) of these exercises into the mix, and enjoy the healthy results that follow.
