Easy Foods for Healthy Back-to-School Lunches
By Genevieve Cunningham
It’s almost that time of year. The time of year when backpacks cover the aisles of the store, commercials center around school supplies, and kids begin to feel a sense of excitement and dread all wrapped up in one. It’s almost back-to-school time! While parents probably have mixed emotions about this time of year as well, they have too much to worry about to stop and think about it. How good is my child’s teacher? Will my child like their new classmates? How do I keep my child healthy while they’re gone all day? While the first two questions remain to be seen, you can go ahead and start preparing for your child’s health. How? By planning a healthy lunch. In order to send healthy lunches with your kids all year long, take a look at these easy foods to throw in the bag.
Apple and Orange Slices
Apples and oranges are excellent additions to any kid’s lunch. They’re easy, sweet, and yet still pack a healthy punch. The key is to cut the apple into slices and peel and slice the orange before sending. This makes it easier and faster for your child to eat them during their limited lunchtime.
If you want to sneak some healthy veggies into your kid’s lunch, you really can’t go wrong with baby carrots. They’re small, easy to pack and eat, and also provide a sweet flavor for your child. While cutting big carrots into small bits is also a good choice, baby carrots are naturally more sweet and juicy. If you want to keep their lunch interesting, pack them a little packet of ranch dressing, and your kid will have the best lunch at the table.
While this might initially sound messy, it doesn’t have to be. Just buy the yogurt that comes in drink form and pack your kid a straw, or buy the fairly popular gogurt packets. Sending yogurt with your child gives them a healthy dose of probiotics and Vitamin C, and makes for a healthy dessert option to finish off their lunch.
There’s no harm in planning ahead, and when it comes to keeping your kids healthy, planning ahead may make all the difference. Use these healthy foods to help improve your child’s health while they’re at school. With a healthy lunch, your kid will be ready to learn and feeling better than ever before for their back-to-school venture this year.
