3 Reasons to Get Stress Under Control (and How!)

By Genevieve Cunningham

Stress is such a frustrating part of life. We all have to deal with it, but none of us actually want to. Of course, there probably isn't a way to completely rid ourselves of stress. But luckily, there may be a way to get stress under control. If you find yourself stressed out too often, take a look at these reasons why you should manage your stress, followed by some tips on how to make it happen.

It Ruins Health

Stress can totally ruin your health. It can raise your blood pressure, give you headaches, cause insomnia, and bring about a wide variety of other negative side effects. If you want to be in good health, it's imperative to manage your stress on a daily basis so that you can avoid these kinds of health ailments.

It’s Unnecessary

Most kinds of stress are completely unnecessary. While there are some things that stress us out that are actually important, many times we are putting too much importance on the wrong things. Are you stressed about work? It may be warranted. Are you stressed about cooking or cleaning or a community event? It may be unnecessary stress. Don't waste your energy worrying about things that won't really matter in the long run.

It Impacts Quality of Life

When you have too much stress, it significantly impacts your quality of life. It can make us feel run down, depressed, irritated, or a wide range of other emotions. And this can make us feel unhappy on a daily basis. If you want to have a good quality of life and feel satisfied and productive, managing stress is necessary.

Tips for Lowering Stress

If you're ready to get stress under control so that you can feel healthier and happier, these tips might help:

  • Get Organized - Prioritize. Any place where your life seems to be a mess, organize it. The less chaos, the less stress, and the better you'll feel overall.

  • Set Priorities - If something is important, put it high on the to-do list. If something isn't really very important, stop worrying about it. Setting priorities and sticking to them can help lower stress about things that don't matter.

  • Stop Doing So Much - If you're super busy, you may be contributing to your own stress. Slow down and do less when possible. This helps lower the pace of life and makes you feel more balanced.

Too much stress is bad for your body and bad for your life. While we will all have periods of excessive stress in our lives, it's not something that should be present on a regular basis. If you're stressed, use these tips to lower it, and feel better every day from here on out.
