Let Colors Add Health to Meals

By Tom Herrin

There are plenty of ways to boost the healthiness of meals.  It doesn't always require major changes.  Most people would like to take the easiest ways to do anything, but it seldom seems to work out quite so easy.  For once, a way to make meals healthier is really simple.  It may not be so complicated and can be done with no real expertise.  All people have to do is be willing to pick some colors and put them in their meals.  When they do this, they may be able to introduce new foods, new flavors, and better overall health as provided by the meals they eat.

Greens Have Always Been Recognized for Benefits

A lot of people were told as children to eat their greens.  Many times, it was said in a way that made them feel as if they should be holding their noses as they took a bite.  This may not have been too inviting, and it may have sent the wrong kind of message.  The fact is, there are all kinds of green foods with a great variety of flavors.  Some of the things they are known for are increasing energy, helping tissue to heal, and aiding in digestion.  A few of these varied foods are kale, broccoli, avocado, kiwi, and green grapes.

Many People Forget the Yellows

A lot of people think of yellow foods as something that people grow in gardens as hobbies.  Many of them are a little unique in their flavor.  Taking advantage of their varieties can do a lot for making diverse meals.  Some of the things they are believed to do are helping the eyes, improving circulation, and protecting the skin.  Some of the foods included in this group are sweet potatoes, yellow squash, mangoes, pineapples, and cantaloupe.  If they haven't been included in meals, people should plan for a pleasant surprise.

Pile on Those Colors

What do we have to lose by adding more colors?  We will surely create meals that are highly attractive and have flavors that may be new and different to many individuals.  We enjoy seeing just how much we can do to our meals by adding more color.  It is easy to do, and we all have the power to make it however we want.  Our family has sometimes made a contest of it, and each individual, especially the kids, have a lot of fun doing it.  We have begun to enhance our meals with lots of color.  I hope it can work for you as well.
