The Buck May Stop at the Thermostat for Health

By Tom Herrin

If someone said that they solved many of their problems by adjusting their thermostat, many people would dismiss the notion as a joke.  In some cases, it may be one, but the truth is that adjusting the thermostat for various activities may be a good way to facilitate greater success with whatever it is.  Even researchers, who have tried to reach out for better solutions to problems, have peered into the notion that some temperatures may be better for some activities.  It is generally believed that most people in the world thrive at the range of from 60 to 80 degrees.  It has been discovered that there may be a better range for a few things that are more specific.

A Sleep Thermostat

People have all kinds of preferences as to how they seem to sleep best.  Some studies have observed that there may actually be a range of temperatures that can facilitate better sleep.  That range is 65-72 degrees.  One of the reasons for this is that it is believed that temperatures that are too warm may prevent people from going through the entire sleep cycle each night.  This may have the individual waking up still tired and unable to function well.  It can increase the risk of illness as well as accidents.

Set the Thermostat on Weight Loss

Some people don't need any kind of excuse for failure of their program to lose weight.  The truth is, there may be a range of temperatures that can contribute to losing weight more successfully.  This range is thought to be 64-67 degrees.  Will your thermostat maintain such a specific range?  Apparently this range can produce some results.  In addition to this, it has been said that those who shiver may increase their metabolic rate as much as five times.  That is pretty good for those who feel they can brave it.

Some Things Are Worth a Try

If you are one of those who is frustrated by personal issues, it may be worth your while to do some experimenting with the thermostat.  I have had trouble in the past with sleeping well.  Since I remembered sleeping best, as a child when it was cold outside, I decided to turn down my thermostat before I went to bed each night.  It worked pretty well, so I do it as a daily practice now.
