Tips to Improve the Immune System and Skip Illness
By Genevieve Cunningham
Missing work, pajamas all day, and tissues everywhere. Sound familiar? Everyone knows this frustrating scenario -- a sick day. While sickness is obviously going to happen to everyone, it can really halt your plans. No one enjoys being sick, and we dislike the missing out and getting behind on work and life even more. Even though we can't eliminate this problem from our lives, there are things that we can do to try to reduce the amount of sickness from which we suffer. If you're ready to skip the sickness and feel your best more often, take a look at these ways to naturally boost your immune system for better health.
Eat Well
Food is your fuel. It keeps you going, and it keeps you well. If you don't eat well, your body won't be able to perform well. It's really that simple. If you want to have a strong immune system, you have to fuel your body with nutritious food. This includes plenty of fruit and vegetables, lean meats (if you're a meat-eater), and lots and lots of water. Diet has a huge impact on overall wellness, so don't ignore this important aspect of keeping your body feeling its best.
Make Sleep Important
You're not going to be healthy until you improve your sleep. Sleep is your body and brain's chance to completely rest. It's when the most healing happens. If you want to be healthy, sleep can't be an afterthought. It has to be at the forefront of your mind. Make it a priority -- something that you consciously improve. Something that you create habits around. The better your sleep, the better your body can function, and the higher your chance of staying well.
Practice Good Hygiene Habits
The easiest way to stay well is to practice prevention. Make sure your basic hygiene habits are on point. Wash your hands and face regularly. Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough. Carry hand sanitizer for cleaning your hands in a pinch. Prevention helps keep the germs away, which then helps prevent the spread and also contributes to your own well-being. If your habits need improvement, start working on them now.
You're going to get sick. You're going to catch a cold or the flu or some other illness, and it's going to happen multiple times in your life. But there are still things you can do to improve your chances of staying well. Use these tips to boost your immune system, and stay healthier from here on out.
