High Fat Foods For Your Health!
By Sara Butler
Fat is back in a big way! For years, fat was the pariah of the nutrition world and people were trying to cut back. Well, it’s now understood that fat is actually a useful tool for your health and wellness. It keeps you fuller longer and is important to the function of your brain and other organs. Here are some high-fat foods that you need to welcome back to your table.
Not Just Any Fat Will Do
Not all fat is created equal, so you need to remember this isn’t a fat free-for-all. Polyunsaturated fats, omega-3 fatty acids, and some saturated fats deserve some props for keeping you healthy. When you get saturated fat from unprocessed whole foods it can actually give your metabolism a boost and improve your cholesterol.
Naturally fatty food also happens to be full of other nutrients your body needs to function optimally, such as Vitamin K2. So go ahead and welcome some saturated fat back into your life.
Grass-Fed Butter
Butter is healthier for you than margarine, but the kind of butter you eat makes a difference too. You’re far better off choosing butter that is made from grass-fed cows than not. That’s because the dairy from pastured cows has higher levels of fat-soluble vitamins, vitamins that help your body to utilize calcium effectively. So, putting butter on your vegetables will actually help you get the most nutrients out of them and they’ll taste great!
Eggs – The Whole Egg!
For years people have been afraid of the egg yolk, but you need to embrace them! Egg yolks are high in fat but they’re also high in Vitamin A, Vitamin B, choline, and selenium. If you opt for eggs from pastured chickens, then you’re getting more Vitamin D and antioxidants too. You can safely eat two to three eggs a day for your health!
Bacon
Many people have a deep and abiding love for bacon, and who can blame them? But, as with most other things, not all bacon is created equal. You need to choose bacon that was pasture raised (are you starting to see a theme here?). This kind of high-quality bacon is full of choline, zinc, and Vitamin B. Go for local bacon that doesn’t have growth hormones, antibiotics, and is free from nitrates.
So, go ahead and include more fatty foods in your diet -- just make sure they're the right kind!
