Dr. Samantha Diehl became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s family of healthcare providers in 2014 when she began serving patients at the Shiloh, Glen Carbon and Columbia clinic locations. A graduate of Jefferson College and Logan College of Chiropractic, she earned a doctorate in chiropractic as well as a bachelor’s degree in biology.
Dr. Samantha, as she likes to be called, loves being involved in the chiropractic field.
“I love seeing people’s lives change when they feel great for the first time in a long time,” she says. “The other thing I love is working in a profession where patients are happy to see me every week.”
A product of Cedar Hill, Mo., Dr. Samantha previously worked in the Missouri cities of O’Fallon and St. Peters.
When she’s not looking after two daughters and their two bunnies, Dr. Samantha enjoys singing, painting and running.
She says she knew chiropractic was her calling when she got some awesome feedback -- but not from a patient, but his wife.
“One time a woman I had never met before came into my office to thank me for saving her marriage because I had been treating her husband and he was so much nicer to her now, like the ‘old Jim’ now that he was out of pain,” she says.
Dr. Samantha loves serving as the local chiropractor in such a military-rich region. “I like the community near Scott Air Force Base because I enjoy serving those who serve our country,” she says.
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Samantha says the one thing she always keeps in her refrigerator are “cold bottles of water: A fresh start always improves my day and makes me feel better.”
If she had the opportunity to meet any four people from history, Dr. Samantha says she would love to sit down with Princess Diana, Stephen Hawking, Aristotle, and Tony Robbins.
“I aspire to live my life with the same level of class and tenacity as Princess Diana,” she says. “She was an iconic, inspirational woman who overcame adversity and social class barriers for a man she loved who she then divorced in an act of self-respect and preservation due to his infidelity and incompetence as a potential king. Despite the misdealings of the royal family on her for snubbing their beloved Prince Charles, Princess Diana refocused her heartbroken energy into healing and helping those less fortunate with an intense passion that touched the whole world.
“I would love to open a conversation between Stephen Hawking and Aristotle about new and old world science, observations and philosophies that have shaped our view of the world as we know it today. And finally, I would invite Tony Robbins because it is my life’s ambition to be a motivational public speaker to help others to reach their fullest potential to live healthy, be happy, and to help others.”
One of the most amazing experiences of her life took place in paradise. “In the same day in Hawaii, I went snorkeling at the bottom of the Captain Cook Trail, hiked up 1,300 feet, then took a bus tour to the top of Mauna Kea and star-gazed in the darkest place on the planet,” she says. “Exploring the wonders of the world and how amazing this planet is, is so cool.”
Dr. Ernest Tanner joined The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2020 and has been serving residents of the Shiloh when he began serving residents of suburban St. Louis.
It is rewarding work, to be sure. “The best thing about chiropractic is watching patients improve not only physically, but in all aspects of health,” he says. “The second best thing about being in this field is that I am able to provide a better quality of life for my family and share this passion with my youngest daughter, who is also a chiropractor.”
Dr. Tanner is pretty easygoing. If you don’t want to be formal, you can call him Dr. T or Doc -- he doesn’t mind.
A product of Pittsburgh, Pa., he came to Shiloh after working in Machesney Park and Rockford, as well as Beardstown. “I worked at a hospital in Pittsburgh and saw patients receiving medications but not improving,” he says. “I wanted to help patients in a natural, holistic way.”
Married for more than 40 years, Dr. Tanner and his wife have three children and a basketball team’s worth of grandchildren. “I enjoy reading,” he says. “It’s an interest that I share with both my daughters and has been a great way to escape reality. I also like to do projects around the house because I enjoy working with my hands.”
He earned his doctorate from National Chiropractic College, which is now National University of Health Sciences, in Lombard, Ill.; he also got a bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s in microbiology from the University of Pittsburgh.
“With my love of science and medicine, combined with my love of working with my hands, chiropractic was a perfect fit,” Dr. Tanner says. Pursuing chiropractic certainly led to an extraordinary experience for him: “I walked my youngest daughter across the stage and hooded her as she received her doctorate of chiropractic on the exact day, 17 years later, that I received mine.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Tanner loves reading. “Every author, whether writing fiction or nonfiction, has something important to impart on the reader that can potentially be useful.” And if he were to write his autobiography? “I’d call it The Wise Cracker because of my love of puns and dad jokes, and because I’m a chiropractor,” he says. “I like to think of myself as a wise chiropractor.”
If he could bring together any four figures from history, Dr. Tanner would bring to the table three wordsmiths and a Pittsburgh legend: Stephen King because he is my favorite author; Roberto Clemente because he is my favorite player who was great at baseball and a great humanitarian who died while providing earthquake relief; Mark Twain because I like his humor and wit; and Abraham Lincoln because he always did the right thing..”
There’s one dairy product that Dr. Tanner always keeps stocked in his refrigerator: “You can never have too much cheese.”
