Healthy Foods You Should Always Eat

By Sara Butler

Life is full of tough choices but eating healthy doesn't have to be one of them. In fact, you don't have to worry about being a part of the latest eating trend or specialized diet in order to stay healthy -- you simply need to make sure your diet involves these foods.

Leafy Green Vegetables

Leafy green vegetables such as kale, collard greens, dandelion greens, chard, and spinach are incredibly healthy for you. They're vegetables that are naturally low in carbohydrates but full of important minerals and vitamins such as Vitamin A, Vitamin K, iron, and Vitamin C. Plus, they go well in so many different types of foods, from morning smoothies to scrambled eggs to sandwiches, that there's no excuse not to use them.

Salmon

Omega-3 fatty acids are an important part of a healthy diet since they help to improve cardiovascular health and blood pressure. They're most easily found in fatty fish such as salmon. The American Heart Association wants everyone to eat two services of fatty fish per week to get the omega-3's needed for a healthy heart.

Olive Oil

Coconut oil may get a lot of glory, but olive oil is incredibly good for you. It's a healthy fat that has been shown to help people reach and maintain a healthy body weight. You can use various types of olive oil to cook with or to make yummy salad dressings or marinades. Whatever you do, just make sure you have olive oil on hand in your pantry.

Broccoli

What makes broccoli so great is how it tastes so good in so many different things! You can eat it on its own, toss it in a stir-fry, much on it raw with some hummus -- just to name a few. Plus, it has a lot of nutrients your body needs such as Vitamin C.

Beans

Red kidney beans and black beans are full of antioxidants. They also happen to be full of fiber and protein, which can help you feel fuller for longer when you eat them. Consuming beans as a regular part of your diet can help lower your bad cholesterol and lower your risk of developing some chronic illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease. They also happen to be very inexpensive, which is always a good thing to hear.

You need a varied diet full of whole foods to stay healthy. Make sure these foods are a part of it!
