Dr. Traci Levy, who has been with The Joint Chiropractic since 2017, is the lead doctor at the Fort Mill clinic. She graduated with a bachelor of science degree in liberal studies from Excelsior College, and earned her doctorate of chiropractic from Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, S.C.
“I absolutely love having an impact on so many people in our community, not only helping them feel better, but function better,” Dr. Levy says. “It is amazing to walk a patient through stabilizing an issue when they first come in all the way through to wellness and prevention.
“I love having the privilege of taking care of so many pregnant moms, infants, toddlers, and kids. We strive very hard to make wellness care affordable because it can be so incredibly impactful on kids as they grow and develop, and beneficial to pregnant moms -- not only for comfort but for labor and delivery, decreasing the need for medical intervention.”
Dr. Levy grew up in Monroe, Mich., and worked previously in Rock Hill, Williamston, and Irmo, S.C. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, mountain biking, running, reading, and traveling with her husband Ryan. They have a dog (Lucy), two turtles (Lemmy, after the lead singer from Motorhead, and Squigy), and two birds (Mork and Mindy).
She was moved to pursue chiropractic after a terrible childhood event. “My mom was involved in a severe car accident when I was a teenager,” Dr. Levy says. “I was able to see how chiropractic care enabled her to get off of pain medication and resume normal activities, even after having spinal surgery.”
She says the thing she likes best about working in the Fort Mill location is the people.
“I love our patients,” Dr. Levy says. “I warn each and every person when they first come in that they will get adopted as part of one big family. I love getting to care for whole families and really get to know them. It’s rewarding to live and work in the same community and to regularly run into smiling patients when I am out and about.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Levy says the one thing she must keep handy in her refrigerator is unsweetened vanilla almond milk: “It’s a staple in our house, and has been for years.”
If she could have a dream dinner with anyone in history, she would bring together “Deepak Chopra and Stephen Hawking to feed my nerdiness, and Janis Joplin and Freddie Mercury because of their musical genius.”
The coolest thing Dr. Levy has done was help deliver a baby. “I was blessed to be called into the delivery room to help out a patient who needed round ligament work done to help her delivery progress without threat of C-section,” she says. “I had taken care of the mama throughout the entire pregnancy, and after 30-plus hours of labor, her progress had stalled. As a last resort before medical intervention, she called me in. Thankfully, after some round ligament work, the baby flipped into better position and Bam! Within a few more minutes, progress began and before long we had a healthy newborn.
“It was my first birth to be present for, and was amazing. It was even more awesome to be able to adjust that newborn at the ripe age of about 3 minutes old. Definitely the coolest thing I have ever been blessed to do.”
